KETO or LCHF? - Brut Nature cava is the answer!

About one year ago I started to cut down on carbs to get rid of those last signs of having had two babies in two years. What I found out when I did cut out most of the carbs was that my always returning urine infections disappeared! Nothing could have made me happier since I was terrified of becoming resistant to antibiotics.
I have since then tried to cut out as many carbs I can, failing and picking myself up again.

During this time I have also gone really in to the brut nature cavas. I have of course always loved them but now I have really actively chosen them over others.

If you are into KETO or LCHF for strict weight loss, you should of course cut out also alcohol. But if you like me, love a glass of bubbly and can't really see the point in cutting this out just for the sake of that extra kilo, then Brut Nature cava is the perfect wine!

Brut Nature Cava does not contain any sugar! (Almost...)

The rule for Brut Nature cava is at the producer is not allowed to add any sugar. But the neat thing is that due to the fermentation process within the bottle that goes on for a minimum of 9 months, the yeast has plenty of time to consume basically ALL sugars, only leaving maybe 1 gram perhaps 2 grams of sugar per litre!

Antioxidants

There are of course other bubbles that have no added sugar, like zero dosage champagne. But what is preferable with Cava is the fact that most cava blends contain the grape Xarel-lo. This Catalonian grape is the commercial grape that contains the highest levels of antioxidants that we currently know of. And we all read about how great antioxidants are, right!?

So next time you want to treat yourself to a glass of wine, maybe a cava brut nature wont interfere too much with your diet? I know it doesn’t with mine!

CHEERS and happy brut nature hunting!

Here are just some sugestions on what to try!

Castell D'Age, finally!

fullsizerender-4We have for three years wanted to visit Castell D'Age with our friend Lars, but with kids and a limited time it just did not happen until today. But better late than never as they say. fullsizerender-2We got a tour by the fantastic Olivia, who knows the winery inside out. This is not so strange since Olivia is the daughter of the family who owns and runs the company, and like her mother and grandmother has her own cava named after her. And a great cava at that!

Castell D'Age makes about 100 000 - 150 000 bottles a year and of this 80 percent is cava. They make all aging levels and both super dry brut nature and some sweater styles too. They are fully biodynamic since about five years back, and Olivia tells us that it has made a huge difference in the vine yards, with the biodiversity and health in the vines. It must be working since their cavas are very nice and definately something I would happily recommend to any cava fan.

My favorite is funny enough the Olivia. But I really recommend you to try for yourself because the chance that you might find it where you live is pretty good, since 70 % of all the cava Castell D'Age produce goes on export, so their spread is pretty large. You can get more information on their website. http://castelldage.com/

The Spanish wine day in Stockholm

This Monday I saw a lot of friends at the Spanish wine days in Stockholm. I must say that it is very practical to be able to see so many people at the same time. I got to taste some new interesting things as well and my youngest (3 months now), got to "enjoy his first wine fair. I think the older one was about the same age when she got to visit her first fair. ;-) sangriaAmong the happy events was that I had the pleasure to see my friend Lotten that works for Freixenet here in Stockholm. She is just the best and I had not seen her for a long time. Between all the catching up I got to taste their new Sangria that is fresh out of the Mia-series made by Gloria Collell. I do make my own sangria normally, but I can really see why this ready-to-drink-sangria is going really well here in sweden, and that it soon will have its own listing at the monopoly. Fresh, fruity and not overly sweet. Of course it is sweet because sangria is suposed to be, but less than I was expecting. There is both a red and a white for 79 SEK if I remember correctly. I only tried the white, that is made from macabeu grapes and juice from both lemon and orange. Really perfect to ad to the picnic basket I'd say!

Gramona was also represented by their wonderful importer, Terrificwines. Anderas is truly passionate about the wines he represents and had a crowd around him constantly. We could catch up a tiny bit at least and I could taste Gramona Imperial 2011, which is the latest vintage that I had not yet tried. No disappointments there. Gramona delivers every time.

I also had the pleasure to see the representative of Castell D'Age, Olivia, that I have long since wanted to meet. So now finally when we go down for cavaTast we will make a visit to the winery, and I promise you a full report. Castell D'Age has really nice caves that are all ecologic which is always a plus.

Last but not least I got once again try the wonderful caves of house Torelló, that has FINALLY come to Sweden thanks to the importer Lancell. Thank you thank you thank you! I can't say anything else than that I love what they do.

It is not easy going to a fair with a 3 month old baby, but I must say that he was a real champion! But one hour was more than enough before we headed home. Now I'm preparing him and his sister for all the wonderful wine visits we will do ones we are back in Penedés. If I'm lucky they just might like it and grow up to be winemakers themselves! ;-)

We are running very low on cava...

The problem with loving cava in Sweden, is that the diversity available is not what it should...Luckily we have a friend in Denmark, who imports some really great cavas, but unfortunately we have been bit short on time to go visit and stock up, due to the children. Yes I blame the children. ;-)

But for you living in Denmark or who happens to be close to Århus, I can very much recommend to check out Lars website! http://www.vildmedcava.com

Among other houses he has available you will find: -Bertha -Castel d'Age -Torelló -Muscándia -Jaume Giró i Giró -Castel Sant Antoni

Bottles that will keep you going until spring comes!

Do you like me long for Spring?I hate this cold, snow, ice and gloomy weather, so much that I have become totally addicted to tulips! Maybe because I can't enjoy bubbles in the same way as before due to a growing belly. But I thouht I'd give you all some tips regarding nice bottles that might help you brighten up that gray winter day! All these bottles are also avalible at the swedish monopoly, for all you poor people that share my unfortunate situation of beeing stuck here in the snow.

IMG_1030.JPGBombonetta by Jaume Giró i Giró, This bottle is one of my long time favourites from the winemaker Ramón. It is a brut Gran Reserva aged for a minimum of 40 months. Grapes: 38% Xarel.lo, 17% Parellada, 17 % Macabeu 15% Pinot Noir and 13% Chardonnay. Wonderful fresh stye with flowers, nuts and baked goods in the nose. Great soft bubbles. At the monopoly in Sweden you can now buy this bottle for 229 SEK, which is a GREAT price! (Special ordering segment nr: 77591) A real "must buy"!

de nitDe Nit by Raventós i Blanc, This sparkling wine (Raventós left DO Cava in 2012) gives me real spring feelings! It is a very pale rosé, that is super crisp and elegnat. I LOVE it! It is an extra brut Reserva aged for a minimum of 18th months. Grapes: 42% macabeu, 37% xarel-lo, 14% parellada and 7% monastrell. Super fresh with its white grape base, but with a rich fruity pallet that really makes you think of spring. And nothing makes you long for summer as a rosé! Can be bought at the monopoly for 169 SEK. (Special ordering segment nr: 77423)

OliviaOlivia by Castell D'Age If you are looking for something ecologic this cava is a great spring choise. It is actually aged in oak, which gives a little touch that I like. It is a Reserva brut nature, so no added sugar. Grapes: 100% chardonnay. This cava is my clear favourit from this house. It is fruity, with clear notes of bread from the ageing but those subtil oak notes realy make it that extra special. It can be bought at the monopoly for 171 SEK. (Special ordering segment nr: 77169)

These are my three tips for right now! Hope you like them!

Bubbly hugs!!
