Barcelona is a great city in so many ways. Not only is it so wonderfully warm and sunny this time of year, but I can also be sure that I will never lack good food or sparkling wine! Take our lunch today, for example, El Quim in La Boqueria. Small, cozy, right in thecenter, rapid pulse and great great food!
La Boqueria is a covered market on the main pedestrian street La Rambla, and just to walk there is an experience. When one enters the market you have to zick-zack between hordes of people in the isles between fruit stand and butcher shops. Amidst all this are small tapas bars where various dishes are served at the counters. You have to have the luck on your side and come when someone else just leaves their place, but you can of course wait for a free seat too, because the Spaniards are not sitting around for ever so the turn over is pretty good.
Garlic Shrimp with cava reduction, poached eggs (in oil) with baby squid or caramelized foi grass, along with cava brut nature. Not bad at all to start of the trip. El Quim is not the cheapest place in Barcelona, but it is well worth a visit if you appreciate good food with good quality, which is also typical of the region.
If you do havesome extra space in your bag on the way home, you can take the opportunity to buy a whole leg of ham. Think what a great thing to have when he cold winds starts to blow around the corner of the house in November and you sit there with your cava and your ham, rememberingthose hot days in Barcelona!
